Charles Young
Charles W. Young has been participating in "Buffalo Soldier Living History Presentations" for approximately 20 years. He immersed himself into the history of Buffalo Soldiers after relocating to Arizona in 2001. where he later became interested in the Buffalo Soldiers, Southwest Black Cowboys, Black Lawmen, and Black Cowboy histories.
He found the state of Arizona has a strong presence of Buffalo Soldier history and he has learned a significant about the topic through his travels to various forts where these courageous soldiers served. He is the great-grandson of Buddy Conyers, a Buffalo Soldier who was on duty at the time of the Brownsville, TX Raid.
His first experience at Fort Concho was during the 2020 Cavalry Competition where he met Fort Concho Site Manager Bob Bluthardt, and Sherley Spears, President of the Fort Concho Museum Board who further enlightened him about Buffalo Soldiers in this part of the west. Young said "To work with the committee members on this Buffalo Soldier Memorial project is a great honor and privilege".
He is serving as Historical Advisor to the San Angelo NAACP Buffalo Soldier Memorial Project, contributing to all aspects of the project for accuracy and completeness.
